A collection of six Victorian mill buildings, this was Urban Splash's first ever scheme in Castlefield. Its completion also brought the first homes to this part of Castlefield and led to the development of Timber Wharf, Box Works, Burton Place, Moho and schemes by other developers totalling £300 million.

The development combined restoration with bold new designs to transform a derelict industrial area into a new residential quarter and was designed by Urban Splash Architects.

Unlike most city centre loft developments, Britannia Mills incorporates secluded outdoor areas, a landscaped courtyard and a canal inlet coming into the site. The project has had a major impact on the regeneration of the area and has encouraged other developers to target adjacent buildings for renewal.
